The category

Hand-set, piece by piece, then polished flush.

Bone inlay is one of the few crafts that still cannot be faked by a machine: each fragment of bone is cut, shaped, and pressed by hand into a coloured resin or wood base, then the whole surface is sanded flush and polished until the pattern reads as one plane. The look — geometric lattices, florals, chevrons, in ivory on black, navy, grey, blush, or green — has become a signature of American and British interior design, and it is made almost entirely in northern India.

We make it in-house and through our Moradabad network: boxes, trays, picture frames, mirrors, cabinet knobs and pulls, stools and side tables, consoles, chests, and cabinet fronts — plus mother-of-pearl and horn inlay set the same way. The bone is a by-product of the meat industry from licensed suppliers; sourcing declarations are supplied on request.

Questions buyers ask

Answered before the first call.

What is bone inlay, and where does the bone come from?

Bone inlay is a Rajasthan-and-Moradabad craft: small pieces of bone are cut, shaped, and set by hand into a resin or wood surface in geometric or floral patterns, then sanded flush and polished. The bone is a by-product of the meat industry (camel and buffalo), sourced from licensed suppliers — never from protected or endangered species, so CITES does not apply. Sourcing declarations are provided for retailers that require them.

What bone inlay products can you make?

Boxes, trays, picture frames, mirrors, knobs and pulls, small tables and stools, consoles, chests, and cabinet fronts, plus mother-of-pearl and horn inlay in the same technique. Bone inlay is 106 listed SKUs in our working catalog and one of the fastest-growing US design categories.

What is the minimum order for bone inlay?

200 units per SKU for boxes, trays, frames, and hardware. Furniture pieces are quoted as a program; small counts are possible inside a larger order.

Can you match our colours and patterns?

Yes — resin base colours are mixed to your reference (Pantone or a sample), and patterns are drawn from your artwork or from our library. Counter-samples in about 10–15 working days because the inlay is set by hand.

How long does a bone inlay order take?

Samples in about 10–15 working days. Production 60–90 days for 500–2,000 units because every piece is hand-set; larger programs in phases. FOB Nhava Sheva.
