A tray is the simplest object brass makes and the one that shows the workmanship most plainly — a flat plane of metal has nowhere to hide a bad polish. Moradabad has made them for the world's tables since the Mughal courts, and they remain one of the widest-selling categories we produce: serving trays, bar trays, decorative and coffee-table trays, vanity and jewelry trays, and the wood-and-brass combinations the region is known for.
Round trays are spun from sheet on a lathe; rectangular and oval forms are pressed or fabricated; handles are cast and riveted or brazed. Surfaces are hand-hammered, hand-engraved, pierced, enamelled, or left plain and polished — then lacquered, antiqued, or left raw, to your spec.

Finishes and surfaces

Hand-hammering gives the surface a texture that catches light differently in every piece; a single artisan spends an hour or more on a large tray. Hand-engraving — florals, geometric lattices, borders, your artwork — is the skill Moradabad is named for. Jali piercing, enamel infill in any colour, and two-tone finishes (brass with nickel, brass with blackened detail) round out the surface options.
Protective finishes: clear or food-grade lacquer for retail durability, genuine antique patinas rubbed back by hand, or unlacquered for buyers who want the metal to age.

Are brass trays safe for serving food?
For dry and cold service — bread, fruit, cheese, cocktails — a brass tray with a food-grade lacquer is standard, and we supply FDA and LFGB test reports per SKU on request. For acidic or hot wet foods we recommend a tin-lined or stainless-inset tray, which we also make. We use lead-free brass alloys for US programs.
What sizes of brass trays can you make?
Spun and hammered trays from about 6 inches (15 cm) to 24 inches (60 cm) in diameter; rectangular trays to about 24 by 16 inches. Larger pieces are possible in fabricated sheet. Sizes are made to your spec, not picked from a fixed list.
Can you engrave or emboss our design on the trays?
Yes. Hand-engraving is Moradabad's signature — florals, geometrics, borders, or your artwork — and we also do embossing, etching, pierced jali work, and coloured enamel. Logos and monograms are common for hospitality and gifting programs.
What is the minimum order for wholesale brass trays?
200 units per SKU; 500 for spun forms in a new size because of the tooling. A tray range usually runs three or four sizes on one order, and mixed-SKU orders are standard.
How do you clean a brass tray?
Lacquered brass needs only a soft damp cloth. Unlacquered or antiqued brass can be left to darken naturally or brightened with a brass polish. We supply printed care cards for retail packaging so the customer knows which they have.
